Fitting outdoor carpeting can greatly enhance the look
and feel of your home. They provide you that extra “green” look
which requires less maintenance and is easy to install. These
types of carpets can be placed in any room and they have been
the choice of thousands of households in the United States.
There are a lot of possibilities when using this kind of
carpeting; and it all depends on your imagination. After you
have determined your design and bought all the materials you
need, the next step is installing it. It is true that you can
hire professionals to do this, but they can be expensive. If
you want to save some money and, at the same time, receive
quality work for your outdoor carpeting, then read on to learn
how to install it on your own.
First and foremost, below is a list of tools you will need in
order to install your new carpet.
1.
A sharp utility knife
2.
Scissors
3.
An adhesive spreader
4.
Straight edge
5.
Tape measure
6.
A mild adhesive solvent
7.
Double face carpet tape
8.
Seam adhesive
Now that you have everything that you need, it is first
important to note that adhesives are flammable, so do not use
them when there is an open flame nearby. Now, here are the
steps in installing your new outdoor
carpeting.
1.
Remove all the grime and dirt on the surface using solvents.
You should let it dry before you install your
carpet.
2.
Next, unroll the carpet onto the area and leave it for about an
hour or two in order to allow it to settle.
3.
Now, use the double sided tape to outline the outer edge of the
space, making sure that there should be no more than two feet
of space separating the strips.
4.
Position the carpet in the middle of the room, allowing the
sides to curl up against the wall. You can trim them
later.
5.
When it is in proper position, you could now cut away the
excess. Make sure to cut at the corners correctly to make
things easier for you.
6.
For inside corners, you can cut V shapes in order to make it
easier for you.
7.
Take the carpet from one side and fold it in half. Do not let
the other half move.
8.
Apply the adhesive on the open floor using a notched spreader.
Make sure the room is well ventilated while doing
this.
9.
Unfold the carpet back into position, and then fold it from the
other side.
10.
Repeat the adhesive process on the other side of your outdoor
carpeting.
11.
You can use a carpet roller to make sure
everything is placed properly.
12.
Using the utility knife, trim all the excess edges, and you’re
done.
It may seem simple, but installing outdoor carpeting
requires some patience and a bit of practice. Be extra careful
while doing this since you will be using permanent adhesives.
Any change later on can ruin the carpet or your
floor.
